Marks & Spencer
Live chat and key company information
We are one of the UK’s leading retailers, with over 21 million people visiting our stores each week. We offer stylish, high quality, great value clothing and home products, as well as outstanding quality foods, responsibly sourced from around 2,000 suppliers globally. We employ over 75,000 people in the UK and abroad, and have over 600 UK stores, plus an expanding international business.
We think the best way to learn is by doing. So as an M&S graduate, you’ll be given real responsibility from day one. You’ll be working on real projects. And you’ll be coming up with new ways of doing things that will make a real difference to our business.
Don’t expect to just sit back and relax. It’s hard work, fast-paced and always challenging. But by the end of it, you’ll understand exactly how M&S works. And you’ll be ready to move into a role that could be the start of a long and successful career with us.

What qualifications do I need?
For the Retail Management scheme it’s not as important what discipline your degree is in. But for the other Head Office schemes, you’ll ideally need a degree which is related to the role you’ll be doing. (Our graduate roles pages will tell you more.)
How long does the scheme last?
Our Retail Management scheme usually lasts for 12 months, although it could be slightly longer depending on how fast you move through your placements. Our other schemes are between 15 months and three years.
Where will I be based?
If you’re going to be based in one of our stores, we’ll do our best to place you in your chosen part of the country. But when you finish the scheme, it’s likely you’ll have to move to another store in the UK. (We’ll help towards the costs of relocating)
IT graduates will be based at two locations: our IT centre in Stockley Park, near Heathrow, and our Head Office in Central London.
All Head Office roles are in Central London.
Is there a long-term career for me at M&S?
Yes. Lots of our most senior managers have been with us for many years. Like them, you’ll be given opportunities to try different roles, different areas of the business, and even different countries. The only limit is your ambition.
What’s the closing date?
The closing date for all schemes is December 2011.
